Pilates
Pilates incorporates more than 500 controlled, precise movements that stretch and strengthen the muscles without adding bulk. Invented in 1914 by Joseph H. Pilates, a German boxer and dancer who was also a student of yoga and Zen meditation, these exercises combine a focus on core (abdominal) muscles, deep breathing and mental concentration to work both body and mind.

Regular practice of Pilates balances your body, builds strong, lean muscle and improves your posture, concentration, flexibility and economy of motion. It aids injury prevention and rehabilitation, and helps improve arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Mind-Body Movement
Woodside Pilates employs the best in Pilates technique and technology. By emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, and complete concentration on smooth, flowing movement, you become acutely aware of how your body feels, and how to control its movement.

By using a Pilates Reformer, you add resistance to your workout while massaging, aligning, stretching and strengthening muscles without building bulk or impacting joints. As a beginner, the exercises may seem simple – a relaxing, almost effortless glide back and forth on the carriage with none of that overexertion sensation you get from pumping iron. But the effects go deep as you engage muscles you never knew you had. As you progress, the fitness challenge will be increased to guarantee the best results.
